Like many industries, the floristry business contributes to the climate crisis. Here at Blod, we rely on a mix of British grown and imported flowers to make our bunches all the year round. It is the imported flowers that have the higher carbon footprint, but we are trying to offset that by choosing local growers when that’s available and prioritising international growers with the best environmental standards.
In terms of packaging, many of our arrangements are delivered in recycled jam jars and customers often choose to return these to be used again. We also have the option of filling personal vases if requested. Other than that, Blod uses recyclable brown paper and string to wrap flowers, compostable tape and cellophane when necessary. We do not use any floral foam. All Blod deliveries are made in a fully electric vehicle. All of our green waste is composted.
Looking to the future we would really like to grow some of our own flowers to use in our bunches. The dream is a greenhouse and a cutting garden.
